Beyond finite sets - Homotopy Theory and Combinatorics

Workshop - University of Copenhagen
15-19 May 2023

The workshop will gather researchers interested in the prospective of doing combinatorics and homotopy theory over more general "ground fields" than finite sets, and willing to think out of the box about the elementary building blocks of mathematics.

We expect to have talks related to pi-finite spaces, the sphere spectrum, algebraic K-theory, combinatorics in type theory, super geometry, Euler characteristics and other notions of cardinality and size - as well as related topics.

The talks will focus on ideas, and there will be scheduled ample time for informal discussions.

The confirmed speakers are Mathieu Anel, Ulrik Buchholtz, Robert Burklund, Imma Gálvez-Carrillo, Jesper Møller, Nima Rasekh, Egbert Rijke, Emily Roff, Maru Sarazola, Jan Steinebrunner, Simon Willerton, and a few more will be added and/or improvised.

We meet Monday morning at 9:00 for coffee, registration, and then welcome meeting to fix the programme 9:20.

We kindly ask the participants to arrange their own accommodation.

We recommend Hotel 9 Små Hjem, which is pleasant and inexpensive and offers rooms with a kitchen. Other inexpensive alternatives are CabInn, which has several locations in Copenhagen: the Hotel City (close to Tivoli), Hotel Scandinavia (Frederiksberg, close to the lakes), and Hotel Express (Frederiksberg) are the most convenient locations; the latter two are 2.5-3 km from the math department. Somewhat more expensive – and still recommended – options are Hotel Nora and  Ibsen's Hotel.

An additional option is to combine a stay at the CabInn Metro Hotel with a pass for Copenhagen public transportation (efficient and reliable). See information about tickets & prices.
